ABA Therapy

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior.  It is considered an evidence-based best practice treatment by the US Surgeon General and by the American Psychological Association.  ABA helps us to understand how behavior works, how the environment affects behavior, and how learning occurs.  The goal of ABA is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are detrimental or negatively affect learning.

At AGBS, our in-home and community-based ABA therapy services can improve the language and communication skills of your child.  Our services can also improve your child’s attention, social skills, memory, academic skills, and decrease problem behaviors.  To achieve these improvements, we rely heavily on positive reinforcement.

AGBS does not utilize a “one size fits all” approach to teach your child.  Each program your child works on in an ABA therapy session is written to meet their individual needs.

Parent Training

At AG Behavioral Services, our BCBAs provide parents, family members, and/or caregivers with parent training.  Parent training provides families with the guidance and skills necessary to follow through on the techniques and strategies of ABA to support their child’s needs.  During parent training, BCBAs will discuss how you can build your child’s confidence and motivation through constructive feedback and positive reinforcement.  AGBS parent training focuses on managing problem behaviors and increasing proficiency in essential skills.

Assessment

AGBS BCBAs and Behavior Technicians will perform an assessment of your child’s skills and preferences using materials they will bring to your home.  Based on the results of the assessment, the BCBA will draft treatment goals in collaboration with you, in areas such as communication, social skills, self-care, play and leisure skills, and motor skills.  Once the goals are finalized, the BCBA will draft a treatment plan to achieve them.
